Come with us to the heart of thunder to a place where deep calls to deep...

Take the plunge. Dangle on a slender line beside the thundering waters and feel the reverberations in your soul. At 107 metres Over the Topís abseil beside South Africaís second highest waterfall, Howick Falls, is one of the tallest in the country. It is also the only abseil where you finish up in a Crocodile. That is not what you think... it is an inflatable two-man kayak made by African River Kraft.

Over the Topís qualified guides will paddle you past the thundering falls to the start of an indigenous forest walk through the Howick Falls Conservancy where you might catch a glimpse of nesting Crowned and Fish eagles, or observe the shy Bush buck picking through the shadows.

Gearing Up
Some of the Worldís foremost climbing equipment manufacturers sponsor Over the Top. Each Beal rope takes three tons and Black Diamond harnesses 2.5 tons. The abseil device is designed by French company Petzl for long abseils. Petzl also provides your helmet along with Black Diamond.

Comfortable shoes or action sandals with good grip on rocks are essential both for abseiling and the walk up. In summer when the Falls are flowing strongly you will get wet as you near the plunge pool, so bring swimming gear, a towel and a change of clothes. Avoid skirts or dresses, bring shorts or longs, and donít forget your camera.

Over the Top operates by group booking only:
Cost: R250 per person (abseil and photograph) with a minimum charge of R1000 per group.
